Deciding to attend this year’s LA pride parade, an annual celebration of LGBT life and culture, was easy.

I was super excited to pop my Pride Parade cherry-and not just because Demi Lovato would be closing out the parade on a float (I’m a huge pop music fan). I was happy to be spending my Sunday supporting diversity, love and acceptance with friends. Deciding what to wear to the West Hollywood event, which is costume friendly, wasn’t a no-brainer. I felt truly stumped on Saturday night: Did I need to make a rainbow flag toga? Should I invest in a pair of rainbow socks with individual toes? Luckily, some quick Googling reminded me that the day was about much more than attire. When I posted “what should a girl wear to Pride” at Yahoo answers, someone named Alex responded with “clothing?” I got the message. I decided to go with something sensible but chic: A dress that L.A.-designed clothing line 71 Stanton recently sent my way. (I had the pleasure of seeing their fashion show in Korea Town last week.) It’s a perfect Summer dress because you could just as easily throw it over a bathing suit as you could wear it to a bridal or baby shower or even brunch with friends. That fact that one of my friends mistook the dress for something from Victoria Beckham’s line didn’t suck.
I paired the look with a sun hat from Zara, a light jacket, Hawaiin-inspired slides from Bucketfeet, and a rad striped clutch I scored the day before at the Clare Vivier sample sale in Atwater Village that I plan to have monogrammed at the brand’s Silver Lake location. I wasn’t decked out in all the hues of the rainbow, but I felt colorful – and comfy – enough to celebrate.
