If you happen to find yourself in San Antonio I recommend you do one thing: eat! I’ll probably recommend eating no matter where you are because food is one of the major joys of my life but definitely you should eat when you are in Texas. Below is a round up of some favorites.
El Jarro ($$) is home-style Tex Mex and we usually meet friends for dinner there as soon as we hit town. Very good margaritas! Dough ($$) serves authentic pizza Napoletana and chef/owner Doug Horn studied artisan pizza-making with the Director of the Verace Pizza Napoletana Americas-Peppe Miele. Biga On the Banks ($$$$) is one of the best restaurants I’ve eaten at in America. Chef Bruce Auden is from London and I always wonder how he ended up in San Antonio. It’s a bit pricey but a true culinary delight, try the chicken fried oysters and sticky toffee pudding for sure. If you are going to The Alamo or River Walk stop by Mi Tierra ($) and pick up a Guava pastry for the road. So yummy and cheap! I am always thrilled to get something delicious for less than a subway ride:)
